The Journey of These Trench Crusade Inspired Miniatures Begins

For the past four months, I’ve been pouring my heart and soul into designing two Trench Crusade inspired miniatures that complement each other on the battlefield. These aren’t just random figures—they tell a story. Both miniatures are designed to interact, like they’re captured in a moment of teamwork during a brutal engagement.

As someone who’s been painting miniatures for over 35 years, I can say these are among the most detailed designs I’ve worked on. The amount of intricate sculpting, poses, and equipment really pushed my modeling software (and my patience) to the limit!

From Digital Design to 3D Printing Setup: The Process So Far

The Design Challenge

Designing these figures wasn’t a walk in the park. Every added detail meant a spike in vertex count, and that really tested my old PC’s performance. I had to break the models down into parts, remesh them carefully, and decimate vertex counts—all while ensuring I didn’t lose any of that precious detail.

I remember several nights where I left the machine running, fingers crossed that in the morning, the remesh or Boolean operations would be successful!

Preparing for 3D Printing

After what felt like endless tweaks and tests, I finally got the models prepped for slicing in Lychee. Even here, I ran into challenges—sometimes the slicer wouldn’t display certain parts properly, forcing me back to Blender for adjustments. But perseverance paid off: the models are now fully prepared for 3D printing in resin.

A New Airbrush Joins the Workshop
